PROJECT
This project started up in 2017 aiming to face the problem of drug abuse in Shan State. It’s based on 3 pillars:
1. Formation
Lack of rehabilitation paths is due to a lack of culture and professionals in this field. Through the translation in Burmese language of psychology’s manuals, the organization of trainings for students and operators, we aim to train professionals able to be involved in a rehabilitation path for addicted people.
2. Prevention
Often, among the population, drug abuse related risks are unknown, especially in rural areas. For this reason we’re organizing prevention meetings in villages, for adults, youth and children starting from primary school.
3. Care
House of Dreams is the name of the house where drug addicted people can find a real rehabilitation path, through constant support by our psychologist and a warm and welcoming ambience.
CONTEXT
Myanmar reached the first world place in amphetamines production, and the second place for opium production. Unofficial sources report that 90% of drug production isconcentrated in Shan State.
Most of the production is exported, but addiction problems are very spread also in Myanmar, especially in production’s areas. Opium and amphetamines are indeed available on the market at very low price and related risks are yet unknown among the population, especially among the youth.
In Shan State only few centers are set for preventions of drug abuse. Anyway in those centers the problem is considered only under a physical point of view and there isn’t any psychological support.
