HANDICRAFT

New Humanity is a nonprofit, nonpolitical, humanitarian N.G.O. (Non Governative Organization) based on voluntary service, promoted by P.I.M.E. (Pontificio Istituto Missioni Estere) and legally recognized by the Royal Government of Cambodia. Since 1992 New Humanity is committed to promoting Peace, Cooperation and Development.  We are particularly devoted to the most vulnerable, neglected and forsaken people, regardless of age, gender, race, religious beliefs or political opinions. Our strategy is a community-based and people centered approach aiming to promote integral human development: local communities participate in improving their own development projects and are strongly encouraged to take on responsibilities.

Through its Women’s Initiative Support Project, New Humanity organizes sewing, tailoring and embroidery trainings.  It also gives underprivileged women financial support to start small scale business and provides women’s groups with technical and marketing support to start rural productions of cloth handicrafts.           

The aim of this project is to help poor and vulnerable women to increase their family income allowing them, at the same time, to carry on their traditional activities and family duties. Organizing small sewing centers in the countryside is our way to prevent them from migrating to the city to work in garment factories, promoting women empowerment and capacity building in the villages.

The products in this catalogue are all handmade by the Cambodian women participating in our development project.
