Displaced children build their own school
THE CHOICE OF NEW HUMANITY
After the military coup of last February 2021, economical situation rapidly worsened.
World Food Programme estimated that in 2022 the percentage of population below the poverty line in Myanmar will double, reaching the 48% of population.
The initial protests already broke out to a real civil war. At one side there are militaries and on the other side resistance groups organized among population.
The result is an exodus from cities hidden by armed conflicts: Internally Displaced People increase every week by about 10-15.000 during last months and UNHCR reports that IDPs actually are 337.800 (last update 24.01.2022).
In Taunggyi, where New Humanity is working, thousands of IDPs are arriving every day.
In the whole Myanmar schools are closed since 2 years and displaced children have no school to go back to.
For all these reasons New Humanity STARTED UP A SCHOOL, called “Do Giaong” (our school, in burmese) by children who are attending it, which is now giving education to 179 displaced minors from 6 to 18 years old from different centers in Taunggyi.
