PROJECT
The project, started up in 2014 and ended in 2020, organized several trainings and supervisions related to the management of savings, in order to allow villages to develop activities of micro-entrepreneurship.
The purpose of these trainings has always been to give local communities needed tools and knowledge to activate Rural Credit Unions and to support in this way dioceses at village level, thanks to the collaboration with Karuna, local Caritas.
After an initial needs assessment and partners identification on the territory, the project created savings groups and their registration as Credit Unions, with the role of managing savings and providing credits to members.
In this way we developed local economy and stimulated local development activities.
CONTEXT
Myanmar is a predominantly rural country: most of population(72%) lives in rural areas and agriculture and related activities still are nowadays main income sources.
In most rural and isolated zone, bank system is basically inexistent and access to any credit is harder.
Any youth who wants to start entrepreneurship’s activities couldn’t find any support and lack of information in micro-entrepreneurship often made them desist from any initiative.
